Did You Know...

... that the Kaleidoscope Divers had a great start at SkyQuest 2007?

posted Nov 15th, 2007 - The Kaleidoscope Divers are off to a great start at SkyQuest 2007. The first jump of the 104-way group this morning ended already up with a 100-way formation. It was a very promising beginning this year. In fact, the first Kaleidoscope Dive 2007 was significantly better than any other first jump at previous SkyQuest events since the first one in 2001.

Kaleidoscope Dives manager BJ Worth knew that he has a great line-up this year in DeLand. The NSL News story on November 6 provided an overview of the roster that will fill the skies over DeLand until Sunday.

The weather is also cooperating much better this time, compared to the NSL Championship 2007 in October. The skies were blue on Thursday morning, and the first loads with the four Twinotters and one Skyvan took off as soon as the registration process and the preparations for the first dive were completed.

The NSL News had the camera available and filmed portions of the preparations for the first Kaleidoscope Dive. Phil Roberson provided the freefall footage of the first jump. The NSL-TV camera picked it up again when the Kaleidoscope Divers landed.

There were a lot of happy faces after the first jump this year, and the NSL News captured some of the first impressions on camera. Sun Path owner Derek Thomas and Kaleidoscope plane captain and master spotter, Roger Ponce de Leon, provided their brief feedback right after landing.

Coincidental flag jump for US citizen Solly Williams
Igor Yurash, manager of the annual Malevsky Cup in Russia, liked the first jump and walked by with a big smile on his face. Last not least, BJ Worth arrived from the landing area and confirmed what everybody else had already indicated: it was a great start into the Kaleidoscope Dives 2007.

DeLand Majik's and DeLand Fire's 4-way world champions, Solly Williams and Gary Smith, shared a slot in the morning. Solly was not available for the first jump since he was in Orlando for his final interview to become a US citizen. He came back early enough for the second Kaleidoscope Dive and was greeted by John Hart's huge US flag. The Fastrax demo team was on site to train the flag jumps.
